In the past we informed you of problems with the large number of false burglary/robbery alarms at businesses and residences in the city. Now we would like to make you aware of the importance of emergency contacts. It really doesn't matter if you have an alarm or not. In case of any type of emergency, if you have friends or family taking care of your property, you help us help you protect your homes and businesses. Let's say that an officer responds to your home or business. If the officer cannot find an emergency contact, quite often the officer is unable to secure the property. The best the officer can do is periodically check the property until an emergency contact is found. This is a very frustrating situation for officers because of their commitment to providing a safe environment and quality of life for our community. Please take time and arrange for at least two emergency contacts in your absence. It seems like a small thing but will be a big help for us meet our commitment for a safe community.
