PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN!

1. Teach them to never talk to strangers.

2. Teach them never to ride their bikes alone; always ride with a buddy and always wear their helmet.

3. Teach them to never play in the street.

4. Teach them to always look both ways and watch for cars before entering or crossing the street.

5. Establish neighborhood boundaries in which they may play.

6. Teach them to never open the door to a stranger when home alone.

7. Teach them that, when answering the telephone, never give out any personal information or let the person who calls know if they are alone.

8. Teach them to be sure to let their parents know exactly where they will be and for how long, and to always call and let them know if they decide to go somewhere else.

9. If they should see a gun, teach them to stop, don't touch, call an adult.

10. Teach them to never get into a car with someone they don't know.

11. If they feel threatened, teach them to run away as fast as they can.

12. Develop a secret password that must be used if someone unfamiliar is to pick them up from school or play.

13. If they come home and something about their house doesn't look right, teach them to go immediately to a neighbor's for help.

14. Remind them of the rules - often!

Good Bicyclist Ride By The Rules

1. The bike will be in good condition.

2. The rider will know and obey traffic signs. They are meant for bicyclists too.

3. Keep to the far right of the roadway or stay in bicycle paths.

4. Yield to pedestrians.

5. Never carry passengers. Only one rider belongs on a bicycle build for one.

6. Know and use hand signals.

7. Never hitch rides on other vehicles or perform stunts.

8. Keep both hands on the handlebars when riding.

9. Wear light colored clothing when riding at night.

10. Always wear a safety helmet.

When riding a bicycle . . .

1. You are considered a driver by law.

2. You are subject to the rules of traffic signs and signals just as motorists are.

3. You should be aware of what traffic signs mean.

4. You should be alert to traffic signs.

5. You should know the rules of the road.

Safety Check Your Bicycle

Check you bicycle regularly to be sure that it is in good working condition. Before you ride, be sure your bike has a light if riding at night, the chain fits snugly, the tires are properly inflated, the seat and handlebars are properly adjusted, and the reflectors are in good condition

A Good Bicyclist Uses Proper Hand Signals

Hand signals are used to let other drivers know which way you are turning or whether or not you're going to stop. Motorists use lights on their cars for this. Bicyclist should use their left arm. Hand signals let drivers know what you are going to do.

A Good Bicyclist Rides

With caution.

With good judgment.

With courtesy and care.

You can prevent accidents or injury by being a responsible bicyclist.
