Planning and Community Development Department
The Planning and Community Development Department is responsible for providing information and administering planning and community development functions, some of which are listed below:
- Flood Zone
- This department administers the City’s flood damage prevention ordinance
and can determine what flood zone a business or residence is located in and the community panel
number and effective date of the flood map for obtaining flood insurance.
- Home Occupations
- A home occupation permit is needed to start a business from a residence.
These occupations are either minor or major in nature depending on the type of business conducted.
- Property Maintenance -
This department administers the City’s property maintenance ordinance, which is intended to preserve
aesthetics, health, safety, and property values.
- Accessory Structures and Fences
- This department regulates the location of accessory structures
and the location and height of fences within the City.
- Signs -
The City sign ordinance regulates the size, location, height, and other
characteristics of signs. Approval from this office is required prior to the erection of signs within
the City.
- Large Day Care Facilities -
Day care facilities for 8 to 14 children require review and approval from this office. Large day care
facilities are not allowed within one thousand feet of like facilities.
The Department is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Questions
